WS-05: SECURITY TRUST PRIVACY FOR CYBER-PHYSICAL SYSTEMS (STP-CPS): PROGRAM SCHEDULE

Date: Tuesday, 9 January 2024
Time: 08:30 – 12:00 (PST)

Room: CARSON CITY 1

08:30  - 08:40 OPENING REMARKS

08:40  - 09:40 KEYNOTE

Speaker: Dr. Nathaniel Evans, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, TN, USA

Title:  The need to move to a proactive approach for cyber-physical systems

Abstract:  Cyber-Physical systems traditionally lack behind classical information technology systems in their cybersecurity defense and posture.  This creates a reactive nature within cybersecurity for many of these systems.  A shift to adopt proactive technologies as well as proactive approaches needs to happen.  During this talk Nate will explore a variety of different proactive approaches that are up and coming in the field including various AI approaches, moving target defense, assessment approaches, data sharing and analysis sharing.  This will be informed by a variety of work Nate has done supporting the Energy Threat Analysis Center.

Short Bio:  Dr. Nathaniel Evans is a senior cybersecurity researcher at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.  He currently works on a variety of proactive cybersecurity projects involving critical infrastructure.  Nate created a cybersecurity assessment for critical infrastructure that is used heavily by DHS and has three R&D 100 awards for his research in proactive cybersecurity.  Nate graduated with his PHD from Iowa State University and has had a variety of positions within industry and the National Labs.
